Embracing Winter

When we align ourselves with the seasons, we learn to appreciate and embrace the unique qualities each time of year brings. Immersing ourselves in the present season allows us to enjoy the specific pleasures it offers. When we try to escape or avoid a season, we miss out on its small joys.

So, how do we align ourselves with the current season?

It starts with being present. To find and create everyday beauty, we need to be aware of our surroundings. While a mid-winter tropical holiday might sound appealing, it only offers a temporary escape. Instead, we can choose to be present in the season at hand—currently winter—by immersing ourselves in it and discovering its unique treasures.

Focusing on what we dislike about a season, especially winter, can make us overlook the beauty and opportunities it holds. Let's embrace winter.

If you find yourself spending more time at home, consider:

  • Learning a new craft
  • Delving into captivating books
  • Cooking with seasonal produce
  • Making mulled wine
  • Having a picnic with friends, complete with a thermos of something hot.

Winter often encourages introspection and inner work. Use this time to think, journal, and emerge from the darkest season with newfound strength and grace.

What we learn from nature can guide us in life. Embracing the different seasons of the year teaches us valuable lessons about navigating the various seasons of our lives. Some seasons are easier to love, just like in nature. However, each season, both in nature and in life, offers its own joys, wisdom, and beauty.

Find the right rituals for you for this season. My rituals are having a tea everyone night before bed and reading for 30 minutes. Every morning I wake up and light my Palo Santo candle, the smell of pine, mint and lemon sets the tone for the day.
